Shubham Charitable Association Wraps Up 8-Day Earth Day Campaign in Collaboration with Meghalaya State Rural Development

Laitkroh, Meghalaya | April 23, 2025 — The Shubham Charitable Association, in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Rural Development Department, successfully concluded an impactful 8-day Earth Day celebration today in Laitkroh. The initiative focused on raising awareness about menstrual pad waste among women and promoting sustainable, zero-waste sanitary solutions.

The event, held under the banner of the *Green Meghalaya Initiative*—a pilot project endorsed by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma—garnered widespread participation from women across the region. Attendees included members of the Association, the Block Project Manager (BPM), grassroots workers, and members of various self-help groups.

Throughout the campaign, participants engaged in a series of awareness drives, informative sessions, and live demonstrations on eco-friendly sanitary pad production and use. These sustainable pads, which are BIS-certified and branded as *Fresh pads*, offer an environmentally conscious and cost-effective alternative to conventional sanitary products.

Smt. Pushpa Bajaj, President of Shubham Charitable Association, extended her gratitude to all the women who took part, encouraging them to continue championing green menstrual practices. “Let’s work together to keep Meghalaya clean, empower rural women, and make smart, sustainable choices,” she said.

Pinky Chachan, Secretary of the Association, acknowledged the pivotal role played by Project Head Shri A.P. Dohling and thanked him for his dedication throughout the campaign. Other key contributors included BPM Mrs. Bobby, Urmila Singhaniya, Kanak Goyal, and Niharika Choudhary, whose support helped ensure the program’s success.

This Earth Day celebration stands as a testament to the power of community-driven environmental action, especially when led by women at the grassroots level. It marks a promising step toward a greener, healthier future for Meghalaya.
