RGU to Host 38th BCI National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition
Prestigious BCI event to be held in Northeast India for the first time
One of the most prestigious and competitive moot court events in the country — the 38th Bar Council of India (BCI) National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026 — will be hosted for the first time in Northeast India. The event will be organised by The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) from January 29 to 31, 2026, bringing together law students from universities across the nation.
The competition is being conducted under the aegis of the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of India Trust–Pearl First.

The announcement was made at a press meet held at Royal Global University on Tuesday. The event was addressed by Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, RGU; Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah, Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration (RSLA); Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury, Visiting Faculty, RSLA; Dr. D. N. Singh, Registrar (Academics), RGU; and Angira Mimani, Associate Dean, Student Affairs. The press meet was moderated by Dr. Rani Pathak Das, Public Relations Officer, RGU.
Addressing the media, Prof. A. K. Buragohain said the BCI National Moot Court Competition is regarded as a benchmark for legal education in India, offering a national platform for aspiring lawyers to sharpen their skills in legal research, drafting, oral advocacy, and courtroom etiquette.
“The event at RGU will witness rigorous rounds of legal argumentation, research excellence, and advocacy skills in a simulated courtroom environment,” he said.
Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah informed that the moot court rounds will be judged by an eminent panel of Hon’ble Judges, Senior Advocates of the Gauhati High Court, leading advocates, and renowned academicians from premier law institutions, ensuring high academic rigour.
“So far, 65 teams from across India have registered. The Final Round will be graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kalyan Rai Surana, Judge, Gauhati High Court; Mr. Dilip Majumdar, Senior Advocate; and Dr. Shaiwal Satyarthi, Professor of Law, University of Delhi,” he added.
Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury said the Inauguration Ceremony on January 30 will be graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson, Law Commission of India, as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony will also feature an address by Mr. Apurba Kumar Sharma, Senior Advocate and Chairman, Executive Committee, Bar Council of India.
“With RGU hosting this landmark national event, Guwahati is poised to emerge as a major hub for legal education and advocacy in the country,” she added.
The Valedictory Ceremony on January 31 will have Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as the Chief Guest. The programme will also include addresses by Mr. Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
