Ri-Bhoi, April 26:
A tragic road accident claimed a life this afternoon at around 2:35 PM at the Umiam Flyover, when a speeding car lost control, leading to a fatal fall.

According to official sources, a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (ML 05 AC 5114) driven by Gobinda Biswas, a resident of Assam, was on its way to Guwahati when it met with an accident on a curve along the flyover. Shri Nobin Singh (41), son of Dayal Singh and a resident of Mukhla, who was seated on the front passenger window, was thrown out of the vehicle as it struck the side of the road. He fell off the flyover, sustaining grievous injuries.

Despite efforts, Shri Nobin Singh was declared dead upon arrival at Civil Hospital Nongpoh. Two other backseat occupants — Shri Bijoy Singh, brother of the deceased, and Shri Baris Marboh of Puriang — escaped unhurt.

The driver and one of the occupants have been taken for medical examination as part of standard procedure. The vehicle has been towed to Umiam Police Station for safe custody while authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
