NCC Cadets in Guwahati Lead by Example Through Green Action, Yoga & Blood Donation

In a shining example of youth leadership, service, and discipline, the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC, Guwahati successfully conducted three high-impact events on 5th and 6th June 2025. These included the wide-scale observance of World Environment Day, a unique yoga session titled “Yoga Bandhan” as a run-up to the International Day of Yoga (IDY), and a Blood Donation Camp, all aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, holistic well-being, and social responsibility.
On 5th June, to commemorate World Environment Day, cadets participated in parallel events across seven educational institutions — Arya Vidyapeeth College, Narangi Anchalik Mahavidyalaya, B.H.B. College Sarupetia, G.L. Choudhury College, Gopal Boro Govt. HS School, MVM 1 Silpukhuri, and MVM-IV Barsajai. In total, 215 Senior Wing/Junior Wing (SW/JW) cadets took part in various awareness and action-oriented programmes. Activities included plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, extempore speech competitions, and pot painting events, all centered on this year’s global theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
The coordinated efforts, led by the cadets, ANOs, CTOs, and supported by community stakeholders including NSS units, Eco Clubs, and CRPF personnel—sent a strong message about sustainable living and environmental commitment. These grassroots-level initiatives exemplified how youth engagement can have a lasting impact on ecological consciousness.
On 6th June, the battalion conducted “Yoga Bandhan” at the iconic War Memorial, Dighali Pukhari, Guwahati symbolising wellness, unity, and peace. This event formed part of the nationwide “Yoga Bandhan” initiative, encouraged by the Ministry of AYUSH under the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) guidelines as a run-up to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), celebrated annually on 21st June. These sessions are being hosted at iconic public landmarks across India between 21 May and 21 June 2025, with the aim of building momentum for the main IDY celebrations.
At War Memorial, Dighali Pukhari, 100 Senior Wing (SW) cadets, 03 Girls Cadet Instructors (GCIs), and 12 Army personnel actively took part in the guided yoga session led by a professional instructor. Col Ajay Kumar Sharma, Commanding Officer of the battalion, addressed the participants and emphasized the transformative power of yoga in daily life. He urged cadets to serve as wellness ambassadors in their schools and communities, advocating for mental and physical well-being.
Immediately following the yoga session, a Blood Donation Camp was conducted at the same venue in collaboration with Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). In a remarkable gesture of leadership by example, Col Ajay Kumar Sharma himself donated blood first, inspiring Army personnel, NCC officers, and cadets to follow suit. The Assam State Blood Transfusion Service recognized each donor with certificates of appreciation, reinforcing the values of selfless service and civic responsibility.
The successful execution of these three events reflected the dedication and coordination of the entire 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC team, under the inspiring leadership of Col Ajay Kumar Sharma, and with the active support of NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati, under the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region (NER). These initiatives not only enhanced NCC’s image across Assam but also strengthened its mission of building socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and physically fit youth—flag bearers of a better India.
