Meghalaya Artist Among Top Finalists at Global Media Summit WAVES 2025

Shillong, April 23 — A 22-year-old electronic music producer from Meghalaya has emerged as one of the leading representatives from Northeast India at the upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, to be held in Mumbai from May 1–4.
Mark Ryan Syiemlieh, hailing from Upper Shillong, has been named among the top 10 finalists in Resonate: The EDM Challenge, a national-level competition under the Government of India’s Create in India initiative. The announcement was officially made on April 12 by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Indian Music Industry.
Syiemlieh, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, is currently based in Mumbai, where he continues to develop his sound—an eclectic blend of techno, uplifting trance, and house music.
“Being among the top 10 finalists is truly an honour. It’s a moment of pride and reflects the effort I’ve dedicated to my journey as an artist,” said Syiemlieh in response to the announcement.
The Resonate competition drew hundreds of entries from across India, with finalists representing a diverse range of states including Maharashtra, Assam, Delhi, and Meghalaya. As part of the competition, all finalists will perform live during WAVES 2025, showcasing their original productions to both national and international audiences.
Syiemlieh also commended the platform for its commitment to nurturing new talent. “WAVES has been an outstanding platform. It’s rare to find competitions that genuinely support and uplift emerging talent,” he said.
The preliminary jury featured top industry professionals from Lost Stories Academy, including audio engineer Amey Jichkar—renowned for his work on major Bollywood projects and commercial campaigns—and Anshuman Prajapati, a prominent beatboxer and Lo-Fi/Hip-Hop producer.
WAVES 2025 is being billed as India’s first global summit dedicated to the convergence of media, music, and entertainment technologies. It aims to establish India as a central hub for content creation, innovation, and creative entrepreneurship on a global scale.
