MEA Secretary Dammu Ravi says in his USTM Lecture, “The World is Rapidly Changing from Geopolitics to Geoeconomic

In his address, Shri Ravi highlighted the major transformations shaping the global order, emphasizing that the 21st century is witnessing a shift “from geopolitics to geoeconomics,” which he said will increasingly drive international relations.

He also noted the global power shift from the Trans-Atlantic to the Indo-Pacific region, citing multiple factors including the rise of nationalization trends and uneven benefits of globalization. “Across the world, the richer countries are becoming richer, while developing nations are becoming more vulnerable. That is why the idea of the Global South is so important,” he remarked.

Addressing the impact of technology, Shri Ravi underlined its role in reshaping lives and economies, while cautioning about challenges such as job losses due to artificial intelligence and the spread of misinformation. He stressed the need to balance technological advancement with human values and ethical principles.

The programme also featured the release of the Centre for Advanced International Studies (CAIS) Activity Report 2024-2025, marking a milestone for USTM’s global academic collaborations. Earlier, CAIS Director Dr. Rejaul Karim Laskar presented details of USTM’s partnerships with leading international universities.

In his welcome address, Dr. Sarbeshwar Sahariya underlined the growing importance of North East India in global discourse and its strategic linkages with South East Asia.

The lecture concluded with an engaging interaction, with students and faculty reflecting on India’s role in shaping economic diplomacy in a rapidly changing world.
