JORHAT, THE CHAI NAGRI, COMES TOGETHER FOR MASS AFORESTATION TO COMMEMORATE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

In an unprecedented Aforestation drive to mark the World environment Day, the Indian Army, Civil Administration and all sections of local society at Jorhat came together to undertake plantations all over the town and its suburbs. Perched in the lush green belt of Upper Assam, the Tea City of India, rich in flora & fauna, has been the epicentre of environmental conservation in Assam, as also the North East.
The aforestation drive at Jorhat military station and the city, which commenced on 20 May 25, has been executed over a fortnight, involving plantations at Lichubari, Saraibari, Bhalukmara, Rowriah, Mariani, Jorhat Gymkhana, which finally culminated on the World Environment Day. The events of 05 Jun 25 were personally led by the General Officer Commanding, Jorhat Sub Area & DC, Jorhat. Indian Army and the locals participated in large numbers adding to the green canopy at Jorhat. The Jorhat Gymkhana Club of 1876 vintage, set the bar high with who’s who of the ‘Chai Nagri’ dedicating a plant each to the nature, besides youth, school kids also pledging commitment for the cause of nature.
