Fire Guts Children’s Home in Ri-Bhoi; No Casualties Reported

Lad Umsaw, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya – A house at the SOS Children’s Village near Lad Umsaw in Ri-Bhoi district was engulfed in flames earlier today, with approximately 80% of the structure destroyed. The fire broke out around two hours ago and was brought under control by the timely intervention of the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES).
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Authorities have confirmed that all children and staff were safely evacuated from the premises.
The house, a 25-year-old wooden structure built with planks and timber, was particularly vulnerable to fire. Preliminary investigations suggest that the blaze was caused by a short circuit. Officials have ruled out any suspicion of foul play at this stage.
