Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off 1,100 GPS-Enabled Water Tankers to Improve City’s Water Distribution

*New Delhi, April 20* – In a major step toward streamlining water supply across the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday flagged off over 1,100 GPS-enabled water tankers. The initiative is aimed at enhancing transparency, improving real-time tracking, and ensuring more efficient distribution of water across the city.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, CM Gupta emphasized the need for better management of Delhi’s water resources amid rising demand and ongoing challenges of water scarcity in several areas.

“With these GPS-enabled tankers, we are introducing accountability and efficiency in water supply. Citizens will now be able to track the movement of tankers, and complaints of delays or diversions can be addressed swiftly,” Gupta said.

The Delhi Jal Board, which is overseeing the project, stated that the GPS system will be integrated with a central monitoring platform, allowing officials to monitor routes, delivery times, and ensure that tankers are reaching designated areas on schedule.

The rollout is part of a broader strategy by the government to digitize essential services and tackle water distribution issues that have plagued several parts of the city, particularly during peak summer months.

Officials confirmed that the GPS tracking system will also allow residents to request water tankers via a mobile app, making the service more accessible and citizen-friendly.

The move has been widely welcomed, with residents and civic groups expressing hope that it will bring much-needed relief and reduce instances of water theft and mismanagement.

The Chief Minister assured that this is just one of many steps the government is taking to improve infrastructure and deliver on promises of efficient, transparent governance.
