BSF MEGHALAYA THWARTS CATTLE AND SUGAR SMUGGLING ATTEMPTS ALONG THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER
The cattle were being smuggled to Bangladesh through the bordering area of West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
On 13 Sep’ 2024, vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted cattle smuggling attempt by rescuing 64 cattle from the International border of Meghalaya. The cattle were being smuggled to Bangladesh through the bordering area of West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
Based on specific information, BSF troops of 4th Battalion conducted a special operation near the International border. During the operation, the party successfully rescued 64 cattle hidden in a jungle area, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The seized cattle were handed over to the concern police station for further necessary action.
In another operation, BSF troops seized 12,000 Kgs of sugar loaded in three Bolero pickup, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh through the International border of East Khasi Hills.
Enhanced vigilance and continuous efforts to curb the smuggling activities along Indo- Bangladesh border, the BSF Meghalaya has seized more than 800 cattle and 2310 tons of Sugar meant for smuggling to Bangladesh from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2024.
