BSF Meghalaya Foils Smuggling Bid, Apprehends Three Bangladeshi Nationals

Shillong, April 15, 2025: In a continued effort to curb cross-border crimes, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier successfully foiled a smuggling attempt and apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals in two separate operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border on April 14, 2025.

In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence inputs, alert troops of the 22nd Battalion BSF recovered 1,730 bottles of Phensedyl, a banned cough syrup often smuggled across the border into Bangladesh. The contraband was discovered concealed near the International Border, strategically positioned for smuggling. The seized items were handed over to the concerned police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

In a separate incident, BSF troops from the 04th Battalion, stationed at Dawki, detained three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally infiltrate Indian territory. During initial questioning, the individuals were identified as Faruk Ahmed (37) of Mymensingh district, Md Samim (49) from Dhaka district, and Md Sushu Miya (39) of Chandpur district, all residents of Bangladesh. The detainees were later handed over to Dawki Police Station for further legal action.

The BSF Meghalaya has intensified patrolling along the International Border and maintains strict vigilance to prevent any attempts at smuggling, infiltration, or other illicit cross-border activities.
