BSF Launches ‘Operation Alert’ Along Indo–Bangladesh Border in Meghalaya

The operation is being conducted in close coordination with the Meghalaya Police and other law enforcement agencies.

Shillong, Aug 12: The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, has launched “Operation Alert” along the Indo–Bangladesh border in the state from August 10 to 16, 2025, to ensure foolproof security ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

The operation is being conducted in close coordination with the Meghalaya Police and other law enforcement agencies. Additional troops have been deployed in forward border locations, while senior officers from the Frontier and Sector Headquarters are on the ground supervising the mission.

According to BSF officials, the exercise involves intensified area domination, round-the-clock patrolling, surprise naka checks, and riverine patrols to plug gaps along the border. Special focus has been placed on curbing cattle smuggling, contraband movement, and illegal crossings. Vulnerable land and riverine routes are under continuous surveillance with the help of night vision devices and mobile patrol teams.

Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, O.P. Upadhyay, who is currently at the border, said that “Operation Alert” reflects the Force’s commitment to safeguarding national security during the festive season and thwarting any disruption by anti-national elements.

The operation will remain in force until August 16, ensuring a robust security grid across the entire Meghalaya frontier.
