India’s First Bullet Train Set to Launch by August 15, 2027

India’s long-anticipated Bullet Train project is moving decisively from planning to execution, with a clear timeline now in place for its launch.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that ticket sales for India’s first high-speed Bullet Train are expected to begin on August 15, 2027, marking a historic milestone for Indian Railways on the country’s Independence Day.

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, spanning 508 kilometres, will connect Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai to Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, passing through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The project is being developed using Japan’s renowned Shinkansen technology, with trains designed to operate at speeds of 300 to 320 kilometres per hour. Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to under two hours, a significant improvement over existing rail and road connectivity.

Officials describe the project as a transformative step in modernising India’s rail infrastructure, positioning the country among a select group of nations operating high-speed rail systems.
