UMIAM LAKE GETS A FRESH LOOK – BRO ORGANISES CLEANLINESS DRIVE UNDER ‘SWACHHATA HI SEVA’ CAMPAIGN

Umiam Lake, one of Meghalaya’s most popular tourist destinations and a vital water reservoir for the region, received a rejuvenating touch as the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) Research & Development Establishment, Shillong, conducted a cleanliness drive under the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign on Sunday.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers and personnel of BRO, who came together to reaffirm their commitment to environmental sustainability and public health.

Participants assembled early in the morning at the scenic lakefront and carried out extensive cleaning activities around the area. Armed with gloves, garbage bags, and cleaning tools, the teams worked diligently to remove litter, plastic waste, and other debris, restoring the lake’s natural beauty.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Engineer A.K. Jain emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. He underscored that such initiatives not only enhance the aesthetics of the surroundings but also play a significant role in safeguarding environmental balance and promoting community well-being.

The campaign successfully promoted awareness among locals and tourists about the importance of maintaining hygiene and preserving the pristine environment of Meghalaya.

Through such sustained efforts, the BRO continues to demonstrate its commitment to nation-building, environmental stewardship, and community engagement across the North-Eastern region.
