The Governor of Meghalaya, C.H. Vijayashankar, today inaugurated and graced the 8th State Conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. The event witnessed the participation of ABVP members, students, and dignitaries from across the state. The conference was also attended by Alexander Laloo Hek, Cabinet Minister Govt Meghalaya and and Dr. Sudipta Mukhopadhyay, ABVP National Vice President
In his keynote address, the Governor lauded ABVP for its unwavering commitment to national reconstruction through the power of youth, a mission it has championed since its inception in 1948. Referring to the ABVP as the world’s largest student organization, Vijayashankar acknowledged its pivotal role in fostering national consciousness and promoting positive changes in the education sector.
The Governor highlighted ABVP’s initiatives like Students for Development, Think India, and Yuva Vikas Kendra, which provide students a platform to engage in societal and national progress. He also expressed his appreciation for ABVP’s focus on the integration of youth in the Northeast, particularly through the “Students’ Experience in Interstate Living” (SEIL) program. He emphasized the importance of unity in diversity, a principle ABVP upholds and one that strengthens the fabric of the nation.
The Governor further commended the organization’s initiative in Meghalaya, especially the Shri U Tirot Sing Best Student Award, which encourages students to excel in their academic and societal contributions. He underscored the significance of such initiatives in motivating the youth to contribute to nation-building. He concluded his address by extending his best wishes to ABVP and its dedicated members for their efforts in empowering students and strengthening the nation.
