Shillong hosts Loan Mela aimed to empower street vendors of Meghalaya

Shillong, October 22, 2024: The Meghalaya State Urban Livelihood Mission (SULM), Urban Affairs Department, Government of Meghalaya, held the loan mela meant to empower street vendors as part of
the PRAISE (Performance Recognition for Access to Financial Inclusion and Street Vendors Empowerment) Awards.

Dignitaries in attendance include Shri Satish Kumar Singh, Under Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Shri. P.K. Boro, Director Urban Affairs, State Mission Director DAY-NULM & PMSVANidhi, MSULM, Urban Affairs, Smt Larisa Mawroh, State Mission Manager, SULM Assistant Nodal Officer, Meghalaya Street Vendors and others were in attendance.

Shri Satish Kumar Singh, Under Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India said that Meghalaya has made tremendous progress as far as first loan is concerned. He said that the state has achieved its target in the 2nd and 3rd loan, terming it as a great accomplishment for Meghalaya. He observed that the state has made vast potential and envisioned that the state can make significant strides with the 3rd loan.

It may be mentioned that the PRAISE Awards were held on Wednesday to recognize excellence in performance and celebrate the contributions of various stakeholders such as the Urban Local Bodies, banks, who have supported the street vendors’ economic empowerment.
