4TH EDITION OF ASSAM RIFLES SENTINELS CUP FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT (MEN & WOMEN) 2026 CONCLUDES SUCCESSFULLY
Shillong, Meghalaya, 28 February 2026: The 4th Edition of the Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup Football Tournament (Men & Women) 2026 concluded successfully on 27 February 2026, marking yet another milestone in Assam Rifles continued efforts to promote sports and youth engagement the in the North East. The tournament was conducted from 17 February to 27 February 2026 at multiple venues across Shillong, witnessing enthusiastic participation and overwhelming support from football lovers across the region
Building on the strong legacy of its previous editions, the Sentinels Cup once again lived up to its reputation as a premier footballing platform. The tournament showcased high-quality football, competitive spirit and exemplary sportsmanship, reaffirming the North East’s rich football culture
Thrilling Competition and Grand Finale
Teams from various football cubs of Meghalaya, along with teams from Assam Rifles, Indian Army and Meghalaya Police competed fiercely in the tournament. The championship followed a structured format comprising group stages and knockout rounds, culminating in thrilling finals for both Men and Women categories
In the Men’s category, Smit SC emerged victorious after a keenly contested final against Assam Rifles FT displaying exceptional skill and teamwork. In the Women’s category Assam Rifles FT clinched the title with an impressive performance against Laitkor SC earning widespread appreciation for their determination and discipline.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rupees Three Lakhs each along with the prestigious Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup Trophy. The Runners up in both categories won a cash prize of Rupees Two Lakhs each.
Distinguished Presence
The grand final and closing ceremony was graced by Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, DG Assam Rifles who attended as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers of Assam Rifles, civil dignitaries, sports officials and a large number of enthusiastic spectators were also present, adding prestige and grandeur to the event.
Promoting Youth, Sports and Social Responsibility
The Sentinels Cup continues to reflect Assam Rifles commitment as the “Friends of the North East”, using sports as a powerful tool to motivate youth to stay away from insurgency and drug abuse while channelising their energy towards positive pursuits
Assam Rifles, through its MoU with the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Academy and its Assam Rifles Public School (Sports), remains dedicated to identifying and nurturing football talent from the region. The tournament aligns strongly with the Government of india’s initiatives such as Khelo India Abhiyan and the Fit India Movement, reinforcing the role of sports in nation-building.
